Overview
Underground infrastructure, coordinated with grading
Kolb Grading specializes in the development of underground infrastructure for utility providers, municipalities, and private owners across the country. From water, sanitary, and storm lines to pump stations and cast-in-place structures, we install the systems a site depends on, coordinated with our grading crews so utilities go in on the same pass, backed by the industry-specific safety requirements and rigorous timetables every utility project demands.

Full scope
Everything underground, under one contract
Utility work isn’t one task. It’s a coordinated program. Kolb self-performs and manages the entire underground scope, so nothing falls between subcontractors.
Water, Wastewater & Stormwater
We implement water management solutions for utility providers and individual property owners alike.
- Water pipelines & mains
- Storm & sanitary sewer lines
- Storm and sanitary pump stations
- Low-span bridges, tunnels & security grating
Pump Stations & Cast-In-Place Structures
We design, build, and install the structures that move and hold water.
- Sanitary & storm pump station facilities
- Reservoir, river & well tie-ins
- Cast-in-place structures: from municipal box culverts to six-story inlet structures
- Reinforced walls up to three feet thick
HDPE Pipe Installation
Certified field crews join HDPE pipe and fittings from 42″ down.
- Socket, butt & saddle fusion
- Field-based heat fusion capabilities
- Certified welding crews
- 2,500–3,000 linear feet installed per day at full service
Subsurface Mapping & Utility Relocation
We map the underground landscape before excavation to avoid surprises and relocate conflicting utilities cleanly.
- Caterpillar Next Generation subsurface mapping
- Utility locating & relocation
- Constructability & design analysis
- Coordination with site grading
Capabilities
What our utility crews deliver
Water, Sewer & Storm Lines
Storm, sanitary, and water line installation, coordinated with grading in one mobilization.
Pump Stations & Cast-In-Place
Pump station facilities and cast-in-place structures, from box culverts to large inlet structures.
HDPE Heat Fusion
Certified socket, butt, and saddle fusion crews joining HDPE pipe from 42″ down.
Subsurface Utility Mapping
Next-generation subsurface mapping that locates conflicts and prevents utility hits.
How we work
A sequenced approach, mapped to installed.
One team owns the underground scope from subsurface mapping to final testing and tie-in.

Problems we solve
The underground is where projects get complicated
01
Unknown or conflicting utilities
Subsurface mapping locates existing lines before we dig, eliminating utility hits, outages, and the costly surprises that derail schedules.
02
Deep or difficult installations
From six-story inlet structures to 42″ HDPE mains, we bring the crews, certifications, and equipment to install what the site demands.
03
Grading & utility coordination
Self-performing utilities alongside our grading crews means one mobilization, fewer handoffs, and utilities that go in on the same pass.
04
Water & wastewater management
Pump stations, storm and sanitary lines, and cast-in-place structures move and hold water exactly where the design calls for it.
The systems a site runs on start underground. We put them there.
Safety
Safety is a culture, not a number.
For us, safety is more than an EMR figure. It’s how every crew shows up, every day. From daily planning and hazard analysis to ongoing crew training, we build safety into the work so our people go home safe and your project stays on track.
Daily hazard analysis
Every crew plans the work and the risks before it starts.
Ongoing safety training
Continuous training keeps our people sharp and certified.
Documented compliance
Full reporting and inspection coordination on every job.
