Overview
Deep experience building for power and energy
Kolb places a high value on construction knowledge and expertise across power and energy projects: from new energy cells for traditional power plants to protective grading around oil storage and pump stations and land management for waterpower plants. We create and maintain safe environments that help power-producing facilities run cleanly, safely, and efficiently.

What we build
Where we work in energy
From power plants to pipelines to renewables, Kolb self-performs the sitework that energy infrastructure depends on.
Power Plants
We’ve done some of our best work creating the supporting structures energy-producing facilities depend on: from ash cells and fly-ash pond maintenance to stabilization and safe access after major events.
- Taum Sauk reservoir stabilization, Annapolis, MO
- Labadie Power Plant ash cell, Labadie, MO
- Portage des Sioux fly-ash ponds, West Alton, MO
- Mehldahl Hydroelectric Plant, Foster, KY
Oil & Gas / Pipeline Pump Stations
We’ve helped build pipeline infrastructure moving oil from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast. At each pump station we create environmental perimeters around the station and storage facilities.
- Excavation & site work
- Storm installation
- Geotextile installation
- HDPE liners for spill containment
Wind, Solar & Geothermal
For wind, solar, and geothermal energy farms, Kolb provides the sitework that gets renewable projects built.
- Site clearing
- Access roads
- Utility infrastructure installation
Facility Support & Site Services
Beyond earthwork, energy facilities rely on Kolb for the specialized services that keep complex sites moving.
- Very heavy rigging
- Demolition
- Scheduling & project management
- Site cleanup

What Kolb brings to energy
Site Development
Complete sitework and project management for power and energy facilities, from bid to final grade.
Earthwork
Mass grading, excavation, and cut-and-fill for energy cells, berms, and pond work at scale.
Demolition & Blasting
Structural demolition and controlled rock excavation on active power-plant and pipeline sites.
Underground Utilities
Storm installation, pipelines, and water-management infrastructure for energy sites.
How we work
From first assessment to energy site delivered.
One team plans, mobilizes, and self-performs the sitework, so your energy project moves from kickoff to handoff without the gaps.

Problems we solve
The challenges energy sites bring
Remote, large-scale sites
Energy facilities sit on sprawling, often remote ground. Kolb mobilizes a self-performing crew and modern fleet so the full scope gets done without waiting on multiple subcontractors.
Tight outage and shutdown windows
Work often has to happen inside short outage windows. We plan the sequence up front and staff the job to hit the schedule and get facilities back online.
Complex earthwork and rock
Ash cells, berms, ponds, and rock excavation demand heavy earthwork. We self-perform mass grading, stabilization, and controlled blasting to keep demanding subgrades on spec.
Environmental and regulatory exposure
Spill containment and compliance are non-negotiable on energy sites. We install HDPE liners, geotextiles, and storm systems and document compliance every step.
Safe, reliable ground keeps the power on. We deliver it.
Safety
Safety is a culture, not a number.
For us, safety is more than an EMR figure. It’s how every crew shows up, every day. From daily planning and hazard analysis to ongoing crew training, we build safety into the work so our people go home safe and your project stays on track.
Daily hazard analysis
Every crew plans the work and the risks before it starts.
Ongoing safety training
Continuous training keeps our people sharp and certified.
Documented compliance
Full reporting and inspection coordination on every job.
Selected work
Energy projects we've delivered
Portage De Sioux Power Plant
Fly-ash pond maintenance since 2005: 600,000 cy excavated, over 300,000 cy dried and placed, and a 53,000-ft haul road, Portage Des Sioux, MO.
Ameren Coffeen Power Station
Limestone haul and lay-down area, detention area, and run-off pond construction in unsuitable conditions, Coffeen, IL.
Nederland Pump Station
Building-pad undercut, lime-stabilized subgrade, and 30,000 sf of 60-mil HDPE liner for the Enbridge Pipeline, Nederland, TX.
