Overview
Deep experience restoring and protecting the environment
Kolb Grading’s commitment to a clean environment has a long and substantial history. We’ve helped remediate EPA cleanup sites, transport toxic waste safely, rehabilitate watersheds, create wetlands, and return nature to a healthy state, working alongside the EPA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Fish, Game and Wildlife Service.

Full scope
Where we work in environmental
From Superfund cleanups to wetlands to watershed reclamation, Kolb self-performs the sitework that environmental restoration depends on.
Remediation & Superfund Sites
We’ve partnered with the EPA, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, and the US Army Corps of Engineers on hazardous-waste cleanups, including the Times Beach and Weldon Spring Superfund sites in Missouri.
- Clearing, chipping & demolition
- Handling & disposal of hazardous and contaminated material
- Decontamination of equipment and personnel
- Haul road, parking lot & bridge/tunnel construction
Wetland & Stream Mitigation
Partnering with the US Army Corps of Engineers, we create new wetlands and rehabilitate existing ones: improving water management, plant food, and wildlife habitat under strict environmental guidelines.
- Dresser Island Wetlands, St. Charles, MO
- Lakeside 370 Wetlands, St. Peters, MO
- Channel & pond excavation
- Water intake structure installation
Watershed & Reclamation
We lead watershed reclamation for the Missouri Department of Natural Resources: neutralizing acid mine drainage, rebuilding streambanks, and restoring barren land to native habitat.
- Upper Cedar Creek watershed, Boone County, MO
- Streambank stabilization & grubbing
- Hydrated lime installation & impoundment neutralizing
- Seeding, mulching & native grass restoration
Landfills & Caps
As general contractor on landfill projects with the Department of Natural Resources, we create and close landfill cells to strict environmental standards.
- Cell construction & subgrade preparation
- Clay layer & HDPE cell lining
- Geomembrane installation & capping
- Site restoration & environmental testing
Capabilities
What Kolb brings to environmental
Environmental
Remediation, wetland creation, and watershed reclamation that clean up contaminated sites and restore habitat.
Earthwork
Mass grading, excavation, and cut-and-fill for wetlands, levees, reservoirs, and reclamation at scale.
Stabilization
Ground improvement, hydrated-lime treatment, and material amendments for demanding environmental subgrades.
Demolition & Blasting
Structural demolition and controlled rock excavation on cleanup, landfill, and containment sites.
How we work
From contaminated ground to restored habitat.
One team handles the site from first assessment through remediation, earthwork, and final restoration.

Problems we solve
Challenges environmental sites bring
01
Contaminated soils & handling
We remove, treat, and dispose of hazardous and contaminated material safely, with full decontamination of equipment and crews.
02
Regulatory & documentation
We work to EPA, Corps, and DNR standards and keep the testing, reporting, and sign-off documentation every agency requires.
03
Erosion & stormwater
Erosion controls, channel work, and water-management structures keep sediment and runoff in check throughout the project.
04
Sensitive & wetland areas
Crews work within strict environmental guidelines to protect habitat, water quality, and wildlife while the work moves forward.
Damaged land can be made healthy again. We make it happen.
Safety
Safety is a culture, not a number.
For us, safety is more than an EMR figure. It’s how every crew shows up, every day. From daily planning and hazard analysis to ongoing crew training, we build safety into the work so our people go home safe and your project stays on track.
Daily hazard analysis
Every crew plans the work and the risks before it starts.
Ongoing safety training
Continuous training keeps our people sharp and certified.
Documented compliance
Full reporting and inspection coordination on every job.
